Volunteer to help produce NECSS 2011

When NYC Skeptics and the New England Skeptical Society teamed up to produce the first Northeast Conference on Science & Skepticism in September of 2009, we never dreamed that less than a year later we'd be planning our third NECSS. But here we are in the planning stages of NECSS 2011...and we need your help!

Unlike many conferences, NECSS is an all-volunteer effort. We don't have professional event planners or full-time employees. The good news is that means working to produce NECSS is a "labor of love" for everyone involved. The even better news is that NECSS has become so successful so fast that we have lots of need for more help!

Whether it's offering your professional services, utilizing a particular skill, or simply pitching in wherever needed, there's something for everyone to do...best of all, living in New York City is not required!

There are two ways you can let us know you'd like to get involved.

1) Attend the New York City Skeptics volunteer lunch on Sunday July 18. This lunch will take place at 2PM at Patsy's Pizzeria (509 3rd Ave at 34th St.). The lunch is free, but please RSVP using this form by July 15 so that we may reserve enough room for all.

2) Send an email to Michael (michael@nycskeptics.org) or Page (page@nycskeptics.org) expressing your interest. Please be sure to include your name, telephone number, location, and a brief discription of your area(s) of interest.

Remember that if you would like to attend the volunteer lunch please be sure to RSVP by July 15.

NECSS 2009 DVDs now available and shipping

NECSS 2009 DVDs are now available for order! The 4-disk set includes the entire NECSS 2009 conference and is available for $45 (domestic shipping is included). If you didn't make the conference, this is the only way to see what you missed (and help support our efforts). And if you were in attendance, there was plenty worth watching again! All proceeds will help fund future conferences.

DJ Grothe 2010 NECSS keynote now available online

DJ Grothe's keynote from NECSS 2010 "Skepticism is a Humanism" has generated a tremendous amount of discussion in the skepti-sphere. In the interest of fostering discussion and debate about this important topic, we have made his entire address available to the general public in the videos section of the website.

Also, a limited number of NECSS 2010 t-shirts are now available for purchase in the NECSS store. NECSS 2009 DVD sets are also now available for pre-order. The sets span four disks and contain the entire NECSS 2009 conference. All proceeds will help fund future conferences. If you could not make the NECSS, this is an excellent way to help support the conference and promote science and critical thinking!

NECSS 2010 is history!

NECSS 2010 is now history! Many, many thanks to all of our fantastic speakers, volunteers, and attendees. For the second year in a row the conference sold out, filling Florence Gould Hall to capacity.

Stay tuned for pictures and video from the conference, as well as information on NECSS 2009 DVD's, which will be available shortly for pre-order.

Planning for NECSS 2011 is well underway and we've already got some great ideas on how to improve the conference.

Remember that all NECSS organizers are unpaid volunteers, and we are always in need of more enthusiastic folks who would like to get involved by offering their time, skills, or services. If you'd like to volunteer to help organize NECSS 2011, we encourage you to contact us at info@necsscon.org.

We are now SOLD OUT online! However, a *limited* number of tickets will be available the day of the conference from the French Institute Box Office for walk-up registrations.

The NECSS 2010 Speakers Dinner is now SOLD OUT. However, conference tickets are still available! Plus, you have an excellent chance of running into a number of NECSS speakers at the pre-NECSS Drinking Skeptically on Friday April 16th. Less than three weeks to go!
